Boundaries
Cingshuei Important Wetland is a coastal wetland southwest of Fuau Harbor in Cingshuei Village, Nangan Township. It is 70 m from Shengli Reservoir, bordering the levee on the east and Jushan Thermal Power Plant on the west.
-
Introduction
Cingshuei wetland was once a natural aokou beach. Currently, there are mudflats, sandbanks and concrete levee on the beach because of breakwater construction during the war time and sea sand excavation. Effusion of underground water from the hills and nutrients from household sewage enrich the wetland and biodiversity.

Ecological resources of importance
Though with limited back land, the wetland offers bio resources that could only be found in microhabitats. The wetland marks the northern boundary of the world distribution of Littorina melanostoma, and the distribution of northern calling fiddler crab in China. Horseshoe crab, an important protected species which have disappeared for years, is rediscovered here.
There are 27 families and 77 species of birds found here, including 14 protected species. Most of them are shorebirds and migratory birds. The intertidal zone offers a habitat that forms the food chain for these birds. The number of birds peak during low tide.
The fish found here include the olive flounder, red stingray and Wanieso lizardfish, which are typically found in the sandy areas. The Carangidae is commonly seen in waters with hardgrounds near manmade coast with tetrapods. Flower croaker and Bali sardinella, which are representative of the fishing industry and culture in Matsu, can also be found here. -

The current situation and potential threats of wetlands
The nearby Tai-power thermal power plant and the un-fitting bike route constructed for the community by Tai-power, have caused deterioration of the wetland environment. The invasive species of Smooth Cordgrass is a threat to the wetland. There has been very rapid conversion of the wetland into dry land in recent years, and the Horseshoe Crab has not been observed in many years.
