Boundaries
The wetland is located in the northwestern mountainous area of Kaohsiung City, a main watershed area of Nazihsian in Namasha District. It extends east to Taoyuan District, south to Jiaxian District, and north and west to Alishan Township and Dapu Township as well as Nanhua District of Tainan City to its southwest.

Introduction
In May 1993, the then Kaohsiung county government designated this section of river as a wildlife refuge to protect many species of birds and their habitats. This is the very first river section receiving such protection.

Ecological resources of importance
Nanzihsian River originates from the eastern foot of Alishan in Chiayi County. The river, flowing through the land all year round, has a wide variety of fishery resources, including very special species, such as Onychostoma alticorpus and Sinogastromyzon nantaiensis.

Varicorhinus alticorpus, Black Eagle.

Swinhoe's Pheasant, Mikado Pheasant, Little Forktail, Besra Sparrow Hawk, Asian Crested Goshawk, Crested Serpent Eagle, Large Cuckoo Shrike, Taiwan Tit, Varied Tit, White-throated Laughing Thrush, Melodious Laughing Thrush, Gray-sided Laughing Thrush, Island Thrush, and Sinogastromyzon puliensis.

Plumbic Water Redstart, Bamboo Partridge, Green-backed Tit, Taiwan Barwing, White-tailed Blue Robin, Vivid Niltava.

The current situation and potential threats of wetlands
Excessive crowds gather for fishing, causing environmental pressure and damage to the wetland. Illegal fishing is also harmful to fishery resources.
