Boundaries
The wetland is located at Dienbau Estuary, which extends north to the south bank of Baudien River, south to the service road north of Hochin River, east to approximately 50 meters west of Provincial Highway 17, and west to the western coastline. It is divided in the middle by the Nanzhi Sewage Treatment Plant.
-
Introduction
The wetland was originally composed of the coastal fisheries and mangroves at the tidal channels. Abutting the navy harbor, the area is undisturbed under strict security control. Due to the development of the second generation base for navy ships, approximately 50 acres were donated to Kaohsiung City Government as public facilities. With efforts from Wetlands Taiwan and other environmental groups, Kaohsiung City Government developed this area into a mangrove wetland park. Nanzhi Sewage Treatment Plant divides this wetland park into the east and west districts. The west consists of both saline and brackish water with black mangrove, which is a rather natural area. The east will be developed with deep water ponds and shallow marsh.

Ecological resources of importance
There are a total of 121 bird species in this area, including 14 protected species. The number of Anatidae has been rising quickly in recent years. The numbers of Anatidae, Eurasian coot, Solopacidae and Charadriidae that migrate here during winter have also increased in the past few years. During the migratory period, Eurasian wigeon and male garganey can be spotted at the east district of Yuanhjong Harbor. The water body (fresh water pond) in the east district has become the breeding ground for moorhens and little grebe with successful cases of broods and sub-adults. Ten of the 15 fiddler crab species in Taiwan can be spotted here.

The current situation and potential threats of wetlands
It is believed that bird habitats in the area will be dramatically affected by the planned development of second-generation naval ships in southern Naval Harbor. The wetland proposed to be constructed within the second-generation naval ships should be combined with the existing site.
